Jazz Experience of
Dr. Harold Fortuin

He began improvising at the piano as soon as he began playing from age 8, and after playing trumpet in school jazz bands and music summer camps, began playing paid gigs on trumpet and piano in a jazz combo while still in high school.
During his years at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, he also drew on these skills when teaching the introduction to jazz history.
Many of his Classical compositions straddle the border with jazz, including Extremities for large orchestra, Antiphone-Polyphone, Coffee Blues, and Femocity.
In 2004 he played original solo piano pieces and improvisations in the Zeitgeist Gallery (Cambridge, Mass.) Piano Festival.
He is available both for ongoing instruction for beginning and intermediate students, or for individual tutorial sessions, either masked in-person or online.
