Music Theory Experience of
Dr. Harold Fortuin

He began improvising at the piano as soon as he began playing, and began intensive study of music theory in his teens to support his interest in jazz and music composition, and to earn his Associate's Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto while he worked toward his Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University.
By the time he began his Master's degree program on fellowship at Michigan State University, his theory and composition skills were strong enough that his professors were pleased to recommend him as an adjunct professor of composition at Olivet College. Then he continued on at MSU to teach undergraduate and adult education courses in music theory and composition as a teaching assistant. Later, during his years at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, he also drew on these skills when teaching jazz history, composition, and the introduction to computer music.
He is available both for ongoing instruction, or for individual tutorial sessions, in-person masked or online.
